A message from John’s Mum
John’s whole life was dedicated to Morris Dancing and the folk culture that surrounded it. He loved playing various instruments and enjoyed his times with his band ‘MELONS FOR ECSTACY’.
I remember John learning to play the violin, It was painfull !!!!, on many an occasion I would call out to him ‘THAT’S ENOUGH, GIVE US A BREAK !!! !’
John would reply, ‘NEARLY FINISHED, WON’T BE A MINUTE’.
After some time he asked his mother and father to attend an evening where he and other friends would be playing their various instruments, John, of course, took his violin, and when it came to John’s turn to take to the stage the room went completely quiet. John proceeded to play, IT WAS AWFUL!!! but John continued and completed the piece.
Everyone applauded, cheered and slapped him on the back (That’s friends for you).
Morris Dancing is all about friendship. and that friendship is made, not only in this country, but all over the world.
